Welcome GatheringPlace!

GatheringPlace

GatheringPlace, a non-profit that supports adults with developmental disabilities by giving them work as dog biscuit bakers and provides art enrichment classes approached the Fairgrounds looking for a temporary place to land.

Their lease was not renewed, and their new building fell through.

With a decent sized grant in their pockets, a full group of people who rely on them to provide purpose in their lives, GatheringPlace was looking at going dark due to an inability to find affordable space in East Jefferson County.

Part of the Fairgrounds mandate by Jefferson County is to offer the buildings of the Fairgrounds to businesses, guests, and the public throughout the year, and this seemed to fit the bill. We continually state that these 40 acres are yours, they are public lands managed by the Fair Association, and we want them to be of service. After all, our slogan is “Where the County Comes to Gather!”

GatheringPlace has a warm and cozy temporary home in the Art Building. They’ve brought some of their baking equipment, and Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, for a few hours, baking, art, and purpose will be taking place.

If you know of land and or buildings that could be a good permanent place for GatheringPlace, please contact them here https://www.gppt.org/contact.
