Fairgrounds Announces First Official Partnership

PT Cottage School Coop brings youth enrichment programs and affordable space rent to Jefferson County educators and homeschool families.

The Jefferson County Fair Association’s first of two major partnerships is officially up and running. Please welcome the PT Cottage School Coop, a non-profit organization centered around serving two much needed resources for our County’s youth; Enriching curriculum to be dovetailed with our growing homeschool or hybrid programs, and a classroom for rent to the community with the lowest hourly fee that could be found in Jefferson County.

“When the School’s Director Amber Jones and I met last spring and walked the grounds, we immediately knew the Fairgrounds offered a unique opportunity for a school. We were both inspired.”

– Danny McEnerney, Fair & Fairgrounds Manager

Birthing a community use scenario out of a space generally held for usage during the County Fair was no easy task. With decades of tradition, love, supplies, and paperwork tied to the 600sqft. space, much shuffling, planning, moving, and teamwork was needed to pull this together.

This is a partnership with the Jefferson County Fair Association rather than simply a landlord tenant relationship for a few reasons. The Association provides under market rate rent, promotion, and a continued tie-in with our upcoming programming, while the School offers 10 hours of volunteer work per month, a commitment to youth and family centered programming that is financially accessible, and a new income stream.

About the School

Cottage Schools are an alternative form of education in which children are taught by one or more teachers at a location outside the home for a limited time during the week. Founded in 2018, PT Cottage School Co-op is a not-for profit organization that seeks to empower families to educate their children. Our mission is to partner with kids, parents and independent educators to educate and equip students by providing social, academic and creative classes and activities for families.

Initial classes taught by long-time educators Amber Jones and Heather Sanders, formerly of Salish Coast Elementary include American Studies, World Studies, Habits of a Scholar, Math Labs, Study Halls, and Find Your Genius.

“I’m excited to what our creative community can bring to this space.”

– Amber Jones, Cottage School Director

Classes for both fall and winter quarters are available for enrollment through October 9th and January 1st respectively and the School is actively looking for community organizations or individuals who can provide scholarships so no student is turned away.
